Mountaintop Elopement in Aspen Colorado

Foggy mountains. Candid love from the sweetest of friends. Windswept vows. Snowflakes blowing through your hair.

Its in moments like this that I am reminded of why we decided to do this job. These snapshots of pure joy as snowflakes blow in the air, bracing ourselves against the biting wind and still sharing smiles. Its kind of absurd to be on a mountain in suit and tie and gown when the weather makes everyone else clear out—and this is what makes my heart beat. Adventure. Real life love. Embracing whatever the day brings, and finding the beauty in it.

We started Anna and Martin’s elopement with a first look in a wooded forest near Aspen, Colorado. From there we followed the two of them as they explored a granite cave carved out by ice, and walked along the wild, undulating curves of the cascades on the Roaring Fork River. We continued up the pass from there to the top of a mountain where we met their friends and dogs to have their ceremony. Standing on an exposed rock-outcropping near a view area of La Plata Peak, Anna and Martin read their hand-written vows to each other. Love represented by wild winds and sweeping views and the tiniest of snowflakes—there’s nothing on earth to make one feel more alive.

As the evening continued on, a light storm blew over the peaks and dusted our hair and clothing with snow. Anna and Martin wrapped up in blankets and held tight to keep warm. And instead of a fancy dinner and toasts, they opted to end the evening by a campfire with craft beer from their favorite brewery in their hometown.

What a way to have a wedding. This is pure magic.
