Snowy Ouray Colorado Elopement at a Backcountry Cabin

An off-the-grid cabin sitting right at tree line, a bridge suspended across a ravine, a late september snow, and a small family becoming one. Katie & Brandon’s intimate elopement at a cabin high up in the mountains near Ouray, Colorado was an ethereal experience. The weather threatened rain, but up at tree line where the cabin was, the snow flurried off and on all afternoon, making the cabin seem extra warm and inviting.

We love elopements like these, where every little detail holds so much meaning and the day seems to be a perfect representation of the couple's story. Katie & Brandon and their daughter Karsyn held each other tight just after the ceremony, knowing that they were officially sealed as a family forever. I love the face that we feel so close to our couples and their stories after getting to photograph such an important day of their lives. Especially with elopements, when often times we're the ones to sign the marriage license as witnesses. These photos feel so close to my heart because of that.

The day felt warm & intimate, intentional in every way. The way the prayer flags flapped in the chilly breeze, the way the snow seemed to fall at just the right time, the warm fall colors and the sound of the river below. The day was emotional, and just reminded me of this huge bigger picture that we are blessed to be part of.
