Zion National Park Wedding
Zion National Park Wedding
Maybe its because Nate and I saw so much of ourselves in Alison & Garrett, or maybe its because their love is so apparent. This wedding left us inspired & challenged, not just because it was in a beautiful place at Zion National Park, but because we want to love like these two love. There wasn't a single moment in the day that felt staged. It was intentional and candid, and aside from having cameras in our hands the whole time, we felt like we were there as friends celebrating people we'd known our whole lives.
We met Alison & Garrett the day before the wedding for a short climb and to get to know each other a bit before the big day. The way these two tenderly encouraged each other while climbing was an admirable display of the trust they share. We swapped adventure stories & watched the sun go down before heading to bed early for a sunrise first look.
There's something about facing real, risky adventure that forces people close together. When we take photos with our couples we ask a lot of questions, and I asked Alison & Garrett about the first time they said I love you. They told me the epic tale of when they climbed the Grand Teton. They were stuck 30 feet from the summit in a lightning storm. As the rain fell & lightning struck the surrounding peaks, they called search and rescue, but they were unable to fly out due to the storm. SAR told them to separate to spread the charge & reduce the risk of lightning striking them. In that moment in the midst of thunder and lightning and questioning their survival, they confessed their love for each other.
These two have climbed multipitches in Yosemite together, traveled all over, faced some of nature's hardest blows, and found the most apparent & inspiring love story along the way. It was such a privilege to spend the weekend taking photos with these two. From waking up for sunrise to capturing the incredible supermoon as the sun went down, this wedding was beautiful, adventurous, and left us feeling like we have the greatest job in the world.
