Allie + Ross // Joshua Tree
Mojave Desert Sunrise
JOSHUA TREE NATIONAL PARK -
Where do we start with writing about people we love so much? Allie is a dear friend – one who we’ve known for some time, through different stages of life, through different careers and partners, and who, when Ross came along, fell completely and unashamedly in love. These two bought a house together after a handful of months knowing each other and became engaged not much longer after that. Their love story played out (for the most part) in the Mojave desert. It just made too much sense to them to get married here, in this place, ten minutes from the home they bought together.
It always feels like a real honor to photograph the people in our lives. We loved capturing such an intimate day for such close friends (and neighbors)! Perhaps it’s kismet, brought on by a deep love of the outdoors and especially deserts, that the four of us would connect through various winding pathways and celebrate together.
Whether we were more guests or more wedding vendors on their day, I’m not sure. Either way, it was a real gift photographing these two. They started the morning before sunrise by climbing up into some boulders and changing into their wedding clothes before meeting up near the Joshua Trees for a first look. We spent the morning leisurely meandering through the desert landscape, taking photos, laughing before heading to another part of the park for their ceremony.
Allie + Ross were led through their ceremony by another close friend, Garrett Foster Green, whose words resonate here. He spoke of the grandeur of places like these, that make us feel small yet remind us of our role in the world as a whole. In the shade of a giant boulder stack, Allie + Ross said their vows. They tied a figure 8 knot together (the primary safety knot in climbing), exchanged rings, and kissed.
They celebrated with a brunch in the spring sunshine and mimosas all around. Another friend, Sarah Fazio, provided an incredible vegetarian breakfast spread as well as a blueberry goat cheese cheesecake. Later that evening, we met back up with Allie + Ross for a pizza picnic at sunset and adventure through the boulders to end the day.
